The Aïcha Makeba Project LIVE at ROOM Art Space

Room Art Space is proud to host The Aïcha Makeba Project on Saturday the 19th at 8PM

Aïcha Makeba is a Portuguese Mauritanian singer-songwriter born in Mali that lived most of her life between Portugal, Spain, Mauritania and Egypt.
With a musical background that involved almost a decade of classical music studies, she switched the piano for the guitar and began composing her own songs, merging two of her biggest passions, world music and poetry.

A newcomer in the egyptian music scene, she has been invited to play with her project in Warcha Alam (Marsa Alam, Egypt) , Sofar Sounds Cairo, Balcon Lounge Heliopolis, Institut Français d’Egypt (Cairo) and Bikya.

Accompanied each time by a variety of musicians of different musical backgrounds, ‘’The Aïcha Makeba Project’’ was born. This project’s sound consists of many influences, mostly in the range of the world music, afrobeat, gnawa and reggae.

For the first time performing at ROOM we will have Essam Abdou – oud, Mostafa Mansour – douf, Sherif Samy – electric guitar, Aïcha Makeba – vocals and acoustic guitar, Mahmoud Antakki – native american flutes and Wetey Rasta on the bass guitar.
